LaTeX editor
A fully local LaTeX editor with an MCP server for AI agents. The same source compiles to a PDF and to an interactive web paper.
Maleficium is a LaTeX editor built in Rust and Tauri. Nothing leaves your machine: there’s no account, the TeX engine is bundled, and after the first compile it works offline.
One key compiles, with a check for missing packages first. SyncTeX works both ways, and every save goes into revision history. An MCP server gives AI agents the same compile, search and replace the editor uses, so an agent can work in your project while you watch the preview update.
A paper still compiles to the PDF a venue wants, and it can also export as a web page where readers rotate 3D models, explore charts, sort tables and play video. The posts on this site’s blog are made that way.
